Renowned Italian author Dacia Maraini discusses the聽trajectory of women’s writing throughout Italian history,聽focusing on why women writers were neglected despite their聽noteworthy contributions to the literary canon.
Ms. Maraini will address how aspiring women writers lacked聽models (the problem of missing “mothers”) or women authors聽who might have helped them navigate a literary landscape聽dominated by male writers and critics.
Maraini will present her ideas on late nineteenth and early聽twentieth century influential “mother” writers including聽Sibilla Aleramo, Grazia Deledda, Anna Banti, Elsa Morante and聽Natalia Ginzburg.
