In 2011, after years of corruption and violence, the community in Cher脙隆n rebelled against NARCOTRAFFICKERS that were robbing their resources and killing them. In a display of popular unity, the residents blocked the entrances to the town, removed the military forces & the municipal police, and expelled the criminal organizations from their community. In 2014, Mexico’s Supreme Court recognized the community of Cher脙隆n’s right to self-rule in accordance with the terms of international conventions.
